Timothy Leary Endorsed Ron Paul in 1988

Here's an Ron Paul endorsement that probably raised eyebrows back in 1988:

THREE MINOR-PARTY HOPEFULS AIM TO BE NOVEMBER SPOILERS, By PATT MORRISON of the LA TIMES:

Paul, 52, is an obstetrician and a former four-term Texas Republican congressman. He bolted the GOP last year for the Libertarians, after a maverick political career that often ranged him against both parties, opposing income taxes, invasive laws and even congressional perks. With a campaign budget of more than $3 million (he rejected federal matching funds because "we don't believe in taking stolen money"), Paul is on the ballot in 47 states and Washington and has stumped in California 20 times, recently at a stellar fund-raiser thrown by "one-time acid guru turned New Age sage" Timothy Leary.

Leary was an early LSD advocate who's mantra was "tune in, turn on and drop out," -- a message that doesn't exactly jive with the GOP of 2012.

    Wendell Willkie's Anti-FDR Pins in 1940

Wendell Willkie, the Republican opponent to President Franklin Roosevelt in 1940, released a particularly inventive series of Anti-FDR campaign pins, all of which derided the President in particularly blunt terms.

Criticizing everything from first lady Eleanor to FDR's unprecedented run for a third term, Willkie used nearly every bit of dirt on Roosevelt that was at his disposal -- even insinuating and a third term was the equivalent of the Third Reich and the Communist Third International.

JFK & Gov. Pat Brown Call Nixon "Nuts"

Speaking about Richard Nixon's 1962 "Farewell Speech," newly elected Governor Pat Brown and President Kennedy reflect on the former VP's political meltdown. With choice quotes, "Wasn't that terrible?" and "I don't see how he can ever recover" and best of all, "I really think he's psychotic."

Of course, Nixon did recover, winning the Presidency in 1968 and 1972.
